10 things I hate about everything

1. PDA
Whether you are single or in a relationship, PDA is looking at someone else getting jiggy with it. There is nothing nice about looking at two people playing tonsil hockey. Unless you're betting on whose going to win, PDA could be kind of, somehow, maybe, just a little bit be tolerated...maybe.

2. SAND
Like a disease, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend or smell; sand spreads, clings to and follows you everywhere. It doesn't matter how hard you try to get rid of it, there is always going to be just that little bit left behind. Like an unwanted keepsake of that time you once went to the beach.

3. KNOW IT ALLs
I don't know what it is about knowledge and knowing more than another person, but there are some people that just want to prove it to anyone who will listen. TBH nobody got time for dat and you just come across as desperate and annoying. #STFU

4. INDICATORS
Pretty much a standard thing, but hint - use them. People belong in 3 categories.
- The overall non indicators.
- The ''indicate as I turn" indicators
- The "i indicate way before I turn and therefore it turns off before I actually turn" indicators
Hate to admit, but as much as everyone says they indicate religiously we all know that whoever owns an actual license is in one of the 3 categories above. But hey, haters gon hate.

5. HANGOVERS
The ultimate Bible definition for the word hate. I have never met someone that could honestly say they enjoy a hangover. The only thing that could be considered good about a hangover is the amount of greasy, fast food you can eat without having to justify it or feel bad about it later.

6. CLEANING
Apart from the annual spring clean/new wardrobe/rearranging your house clean- cleaning sucks.
If one more person says that cleaning cleanses your soul or tries to give another bulls*** excuse about how their OCD makes cleaning enjoyable, sh*** will hit the fan pronto.

7. OVER PRICED ITEMS
Clothes, drinks, food, anything that you know is cheaper in one place but significantly more expensive in another just because of its location, brand or just because they want to is super irritating and could cause a new war. #getrichordietryin

8. LOUD NOISES
Probably not something that you would have thought of at first, but now you're thinking about it, you're remembering all those times the lawn mower woke you up at 5am, or those teenagers that drove past your house with an unnecessarily loud engine or that time the baby was behind you on that 12 hour flight.

9. BO
With this amazing invention called deodorant, there is literally no excuse for someone to smell. Perfume, body mist, deodorant, soap, whatever the f*** works for you, mate- spray it. That's not the worst part though, its the people that do smell and you offer them deodorant or a spray and they have the nerve to say "no, i'm all good thanks". Like no, no you ain't good.

10. MONDAYS
If you can make a Monday work for you, cudos. But for those that have the 9-5 job or are hungover from a kick-ass Sunday sesh, Monday's are just not your day. It is the only day that is the furthest from Friday. Need I say more?

How To: Survive the Bus

1. Eat foods that are odourless or better yet, just don't eat

2. Do not make eye contact with anyone (making eye contact is like holding a sign saying "sit next to me please)

3. If you are standing, hold on. tightly. #gothepole

4. Music in headphones must be middle volume- unless you are comfortable with the idea that everyone around you knows your a "belieber"

5. Buy your ticket - coins are a no go. Guaranteed you will be pushed out the door like the peasant you are

6. If the bus is empty, do not sit at the front. Aim for the Middle to the back rows, these fill up slower than the front.

7. If you are a germaphobe, now is not the time to get dettol happy. People will shun you. Buses are communal- so are the germs that ride with it.

8. Headphones- use them. No one is interested in listening to your fave podcast, YouTube subscriber, or your latest rap single demo you just made. Plug it in, and let the rest of the bus go about their day.

9. Personal space-ha! Goodluck

10. Unfortunately many of us who would rather drive simply cannot afford to, it isn't practical to or just didn't for some reason. Sorry to say, but if you don't have an opal card/ go card or any form of prepaid card because catching the bus is not a usual form of transport for you, you will suffer a miserable trip. The regulars know how it's done these days and they'll see you coming from a mile away. Keep your head down, earphones in and just pray that you'll get off on the right stop. #donthatetheplayer #hatethegame

How To: Keep Her Happy

1. Always listen (nodding your head and changing your facial expressions gives the ultimate impression that what she is saying is important to you).

2. What she says in the last few words of her sentence is critical (she will ask you to repeat them to check that you were actually listening).

3. If you don't hear the question, always say yes (at some point you are going to get it right).

4. Like a baby with keys, always let her play with your phone (she will read your messages regardless, so your confidence in letting her do so will make her feel more at ease in the relationship).

5. Never fart in front of her, this opens up a two way reciprocal relationship which means (she will fart in front of you too).

6. It is always your fault. *no elaboration needed*

7. Argue with her, when girls are angry they want to fight but they don't want an easy win. If you admit that you are wrong straight away, its like a fart that you hold in. It builds up and one day she will slowly implode. Let her fight and yell her reasons, she wants to win the fight amorously- give her that glory (or she will make you pay for it eventually).

8. When she asks for your honest opinion in an outfit, your response will always be positive. Never say that you don't think it matches or it doesn't cling in the right areas. She looks great from when she wakes up to when she falls asleep (otherwise you will be 3 hours late, rather than the usual 1 hour).

9. When she complains, always comfort her. If she is sick, be with her. If she crys, do not automatically assume it is the time of the month. If you want her happy, accept her at her worst and you will receive her best. (remember assume makes an ass out of u and me).

10. If you want to keep her happy, you will not need the above tips (although they are helpful). You should want to make her happy because you genuinely care for her, as she does you.

The butterfly effect

When the caterpillar thought it was all over; it became a butterfly.

There is nothing that comforts us, nothing that guides us nor dictates that we will become exactly who it is we are meant to be.
The hardest and possibly the most challenging experiences of an adolescent's growth is the path of discovery.

Trying to extinguish the childhood cheeks and trying to establish who it is we set out to be.
Is it your parents you wish to live up to? An idol, familiar face or a wallflower. Whoever it is, that we deem 'ourselves', lies entirely in our own hands.
So what happens when the person you set out to be, becomes someone you end up despising?

What if we fall short of who we aim to become, or make of ourselves. What if we disappoint ourself in thinking that who we are, just might not be enough. Who will we let down along the way? Who will think differently of us, how will people view us?

Change is terrifying and establishing ones persona, finding your ambitions and comparing them to others, is life's cruelest social function set to date.

Challenging yourself to be a better you is the only change you should aspire for. Changing into or trying to become someone you're not, will only end up destroying your belief in becoming who you want to be and is only teaching yourself one thing...

That who you are isn't and will never be good enough.
This is where you, and I, have always been mislead. I always thought that if tried hard enough, worked long enough or modified my appearance to be deemed 'pretty' enough- I would eventually blossom into the butterfly.

It's taken some tough pep talks and long nights of evaluation, to finally discover that the butterfly was always within me. I just had to cocoon myself first.

I had to live through multiple experiences and failures to realise that the butterfly is something that you have to earn. You have to recognise the butterfly in you for what it is, and not for what someone else's view of a butterfly was.

Finding out who you want to be, is cocooning yourself. Its taking the time to reaccess your own ambitions, goals and motives. Defining your own version of beauty and discovering what it is that makes you, you.
Sure, I haven't evolved yet. I am still young, I still need to find my definition of what it means to become a butterfly. But I no longer beat myself down for not knowing differently.
I have grown up (especially in this day and age) with images, media and false representations of what it means to be the butterfly, so yes, it has and it will take me some time to recognise my own definition and define my own life's purpose.

But it is also (I believe), my duty to remind people that its okay if you have not yet established your own definition or path yet.
Everyone evolves in their own time, whether you are 15, 20, 25 or 30, everyone grows at their own pace. Everyone has their own hurdles and everyone finds out exactly who they are meant to be- when they are meant to.

Take your time in discovering your butterfly.
Redefine yourself as a better you because At the end of the day if we’re not happy, if we’re not living the life we want to be living, then something needs to change; As we cant waste all our years worrying and trying to be someone or something better; Because really, that’s not really living.

Recovery

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re doing something.” —  Neil Gaiman

Denial has been a huge part of it.
The resentment of letting go of something I knew i was good at.
It was the anticipation and the expectation of something bigger and better than the last. The looming eyes of readers, awaiting another post that could maybe live up to the last.
It was reading other articles, blogs, magazines, statuses and realising that maybe what I had within me just wasn't the great breakthrough I thought I had found.

Yes, it has been way too long since my last blog post. It became a couple of days, and after my regularity of the post every Tuesday and Thursday, my lack of routine got the better of me and I just let it slip further and further from my reach.
Ideas became lost and my sense of imagination became frozen. I became dull (mentally) and emotionally I didn't have anything to reflect on.

I have been unmotivated for months. Self pity most probably but also I became doubtful in thinking that I could be someone greater than who I was behind the computer screen.

I started working more, I became more involved with my personal and social life and my life as an ambitious blogger was tucked away for a little while.
I don't know why I thought it was a good idea in the first place to stop blogging, but i thought what i had produced was enough to give me a bit of a 'holiday'.

I realised something during my momentary mental break. You never give up on something that you love. If you do, you lose a sense of pride in your every day movements. You lose focus on what it is you really want and you are pretty much scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas on where to start your life again.

Really, it was there all along, but because of doubt and lack of self confidence, i was forced to reconsider a life as a blogger or potential journalist.

But yes, alongside my return to the blogosphere, I was also given my opportunity again to re-enter university and continue my long awaited journalism career. *shakes fists in cheering manner*.

Its been a busy few weeks (months) planning and mentally preparing myself for an overdosed work load plus uni degree. But I am hopeful that it could go perfectly well or it could all go south.

Heres hoping that it'll go the first way.

But, after a well deserved smack to the back of the head, I am now back doing what drives my ambition to become a journalist and back blogging.
Although I can't guarantee the regularity of blogs like last time, I can (maybe) promise that there will never be such a large delay between blogs again.

I think it was my first uni subject lecture that i realised that I had let go or slowly drifted from what it was that drove me there in the first place.
People asked me why it was i chose journalism or what was my 'identifier'. I couldn't really find anything but return with the response 'I'm a blogger' or 'I write for the benefit of others through blogs' and 'I write for enjoyment with the pleasure of it having a purpose'.

And thats when it hit me, that I had blogged in months and if I hadn't blogged in months- it meant that i couldn't really justify or have the privilege of saying it was my hidden talent that has provided me with ambition to be where I am today.

So to clarify, I am back.
Re-invented with a new flaming hope and drive to make UY just as great as YDNR was.
Picking up where I left of.

Because recovery isn’t about getting back to how you were before, it’s about building something new.
