The triangle for overthinkers

“Life is simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
- Confucius

Every minute we are spending in silence, awake or alone- we are spending thinking. Commonly about things that are being overthought.

Times, dates, appointments, emotions, actions- everything that we think about- we analyse, dissect and review subconsciously.
We don't necessarily know when it happens, how it is triggered or when it stops, but at some point within our lives- we have all done it.

Waves of anxiety, stress and tension leave us feeling overwhelmed about the things that are happening in our lives.

Money, love and work being the pinnacle subjects that are most commonly overthought.I give you: the triangle for over thinkers.

The three main things that over thinkers drown in.

Money

When we hand over $20 for lunch, and then $5 for the bus and another $50 for our phone bill, we mentally start calculating how everything is adding up.

We won't do it everyday, but come pay time, it becomes critical

We look at that small little box down the bottom that shows us what we have earned annually and see the large sum of what we are meant to have and then compare it to what we currently have.

It's devastating, when you realise that you've just spent nearly $11,000 in 7 months on things like food, drinks and leisure activities. Did you want some ice with that burn?

Work

The constant struggle of weighing money over love.Passion over security, finance over life- work is the only thing that keeps people alive, although it is the main killer of happiness. No one enjoys their job- thats why they pay you to do it.

Some people could argue that statement, saying that they run their own business or that they get enough benefits that they are happy to go to work or that they love what they do sooooo much that it doesn't seem like work.

In that case- congratulations. You are one of the lucky ones.

However, many people struggle for many years trying to earn enough just to breathe, to feed their family- or even just trying to keep themselves surviving.

Working surely isn't a luxury, in fact, many of us would rather not. But unfortunately, it's just not how things go around here. If you want the best in life- you have to earn it.
And by earning it, I'm talking about physically and mentally exercising every aspect of your being.

It's up to you to decide how much is too much, how much is not enough and how far will you go to reach what you consider 'happiness' with your career and within your workplace.

Love

What would we do, imagine the power in the world, if one knew how to find love, and how to keep love.

Love is the most tenacious, infrequent and confusing emotion in life. Its underestimated for its power of destruction and resolution.

Love is the main reason behind war, behind success, and therefore is the significant key to both happiness and sadness. It can destroy people or bring people together.

So, with its undeniable affect and power- it also becomes (probably the highest) overthought subject of all time.

Love links to work and to money- because with love, one either needs or doesn't need money. With love, one discovers a passion which they then pursue for in a career. Love doesn't necessarily have to be based within two people, but can be found in work, activities and objects.

When we analyse things in our lives and overthink ideas, situations and issues, it is all subliminally related to love.

Are we happy? Do i love my job? Do i love my partner? Do i enjoy where I am at in my life? Am i happy with where I am living? Can i do better? Is this it?

All the above questions link back to love- a great interest and pleasure in something, with a strong feeling of affection.

Feelings outweigh physical things inevitably and therefore, love will always override every other thing you overthink.
If you want to solve overthinking, or become peaceful and free from your mind...find love within yourself, in your life and in those around you.

By doing this- you will be able to solve all other things you currently overthink- you may even find there aren't many things to be overthought once this is done.

6 Things I Actually Learnt From Highschool

1. Your teachers are people too.
There is an evident change between your relationships with your teachers when you upgrade from middle-school to high-school. Your teachers are no longer intimidating, but become inspiring instead. The older you get, the more you start to relate to them and eventually (in grades 11 and 12), they go out, eat, drink and socialise just like you do. Weird huh?

2. I still, to date, have not used algebra
I wasn't an academic, although I did have to take maths. Now, a lot of people may say otherwise, but after being 3 years out of school...I still have not calculated my groceries I buy at Coles using Pythagoras Theorem. This applies to generally every subject- what you are taught in class you will only keep bits of- however that is not to say that it isn't worth  learning. It's educational and could be useful one day.

3. A 6 hour day is short
Its true, the real world is relentless. If you're lucky you'll score a 9-5 job, otherwise you get handed split shifts, night work, shift work or worse- no work at all. So, enjoy it while you can. Going to school for 6 hours a day, to pretty much socialise is something we all think back to whilst day dreaming.

4. Your social clique does not define you.
Its certainly important, from 8-3, 365 days for 12 years of your life that you maintain an alter ego. That what you do, how you act and what sort of friends you have within your schooling years affects your social cohesion with the world. But, once you graduate and move on with your life and do things you really want to do and meet people you really want to be around, your social group from school disintegrates to 2-3 close friends and your social group that used to be, is maybe, not what it used to be. And that is okay.

5. Your grades are not a measure of your intelligence.
When you get a C in school, its assumed that your intelligence is lower than average. Because at school, we are all confined to one education syllabus, everyone is meant to learn and understand equally. Which so clearly, is not true. We are all different. How we learn, what we learn and when we learn, varies from one to another. Someone might be better at you at something, and you may be better at something than someone else. Its how life works, everyone works to their strengths which may be someone else's weaknesses.

6. There will always be someone prettier, smarter and skinnier than you. It is up to you define yourself around this.
Self explanatory but sometimes it needs to be repeated and understood. You cannot be the best at everything. School is the playground for self destruction. It worsens outside of school too. You will never be the greatest at everything, but you can always be you. Never try to be someone you are not. Never beat yourself down for not having something that someone else does. You have qualities that other people admire, and just because you grew up in a social realm of high school sweethearts, academics, athletes, models and other forms of talent, doesn't mean that you aren't great. School is brutal, and no one likes it while they are there. But its an inevitable chapter of your life that helps you form who you want to be. It guides you into seeing who you are and what sort of person you are becoming. School isn't books and homework and dances- it is so much more than that.

8 things your mum said that now make sense

1. Smile, even if you don't feel like it.
Those days where life sucks, everything goes to sh*** and you think over and over in your head why is it you are doing the things you do. Remember that life get's better, there are people worse off and that come tomorrow, you can change whatever it is that is getting you down. Don't let the moments worth smiling for take away the glory of enjoying the little things in life.

2. Bitch to me, not to others.
One of life's best lessons. Your mum is the hoarder of all secrets. You will, eventually, find this out the hard way. But even your best friends will spread an unwanted truth to those that you didn't tell it to. If your friend, teacher, or someone is giving you a headache/stole your clothes/annoyed you a little bit- don't tell another friend or someone else that holds the power in telling the person. This also evolves with life- with love and with profession.
Tell your mum everything. She gave birth to you, she isn't going to throw you in the deep in. Unless you reaallllyyyy deserve it!

3. Don't burn the candle
Maybe its turning 20 that has made me realise this, but eventually working and drinking and socialising and studying will take its toll.
Whilst young and still frivolous, it may not seem like a hangover will last all day or that staying up late at night will matter tomorrow. But it does. If you are working excessively, studying and all the while throwing back a few tequila shots on uni nights and weekends- remember to not over do it. It makes me cringe to say it but, sometimes a night in is nice too.

4. Do exercise, eat healthier
Those drive through, greasy feed, midnight snacks sessions will eventually have to come to a hault. Binge eating your way through breakups/ exams and work periods are great and extremely effective, however, they don't necessarily make you feel all that good. Doing exercise releases endorphins which actually makes you scientifically happier. Eating healthier makes your insides and your outsides cleaner and well nourished. Your mum is actually onto something here #praiseyourmama

5. Always be fashionably late
No one likes to arrive at party when its just the family and the host there. If you have put a lot of time and effort into how you look, you want a grand entrance you and want people to notice  you have arrived. You can never be too late. If you miss the awkward hour of sober talk and meet and greets- it's no loss to you. The later you are- the drunker people are and the more comfortable it is to break
into a crowd.

6. Take a jacket
If you even just as think you might need a jacket, you will. Remember those times you went to dinner or a football game or some event where your mum asked you 3 times over if you wanted to take a jacket? And you stubbornly said NO every time with that smug grin on your face because you knew everything. Remember how wrong you were when you were pulling on your mum's arm, begging for her jacket because you were cold? Well...she does.

7. When in doubt, go without.
Irrational spending, splurging, or anything else you are doing that leaves you questioning why you are doing it in the first place. Leave it, lose it or return it. If your heart is not 100% set on something, it isn't meant to be. Whether its a relationship, an expensive top, or a job that you aren't enjoying, take the wise words from #elsa and let it go.

8. Nothing good every happens after 3am
This is the truths of all motherly truths. You're either going to be too drunk, too tired, or you desperately trying to cling onto a day that has already passed. Unless you are having the once in a blue moon kick on's after a miraculous night out, grab a kebab, gather your sh*** and put your ass to bed.
